Where Can I Learn AI for Free? Complete Guide 2026

You can learn AI for free on platforms like Coursera, edX, Google AI, OpenClassrooms, or Elements of AI. Several offer certificates at no cost. French-language options are plentiful and accessible without technical prerequisites. For Moroccan and francophone audiences, the resources are there. You just need to know where to look.

Free International Platforms

Google AI and Its Open Resources

Google offers several free learning paths through Google AI Education. The most accessible: Introduction to Generative AI on Google Cloud Skills Boost. Available in English, it takes about 45 minutes and awards a digital badge. No prerequisites. No credit card.

For deeper learning, Google also offers machine learning courses through Kaggle Learn. Everything is free and online. And Kaggle is the reference platform for practicing on real data.

Coursera: Free If You Know How to Use It

Coursera hosts courses from Stanford, DeepLearning.AI, IBM, and Google. Most are accessible in audit mode, meaning without paying. You access videos and readings. You don’t take graded exams, so no official certificate.

If you want the certificate, Coursera offers financial aid. The process takes a few days but works. I’ve seen Moroccan professionals use it successfully.

The most recommended course for beginners: AI For Everyone by Andrew Ng. Designed for non-technical people. Exactly what an HR director or executive needs to understand without coding.

edX: Academic Rigor, Without the Fees

edX works on the same model. Free audit, paid certificate. Courses from MIT, Harvard, or Microsoft are accessible. IBM’s Professional Certificate in Data Science is particularly well-structured for beginners.

One caveat: edX has evolved since its acquisition by 2U. Some previously free courses are now behind a subscription. Check before enrolling.

Elements of AI: The Best Entry Point for Non-Technical Learners

Created by the University of Helsinki and Reaktor, Elements of AI is probably the most accessible training that exists. Entirely free. Available in French. No math prerequisites.

It explains what AI is, how it works, and what it cannot do. In a few hours, you have a solid foundation. The certificate is free upon course completion.

This is where I recommend starting, before anything else.

French-Language and Moroccan Options

OpenClassrooms: The French-Language Reference

OpenClassrooms offers free courses in French on AI, machine learning, and data. The freemium model allows access to most content without paying. Certification pathways are paid, but introductory courses are freely accessible.

For Moroccan or Belgian audiences who prefer learning in French, it’s the most complete platform. Courses are well-produced, examples are concrete.

The Moroccan Context: Real Momentum

Morocco is positioning itself seriously on AI. The country ranks among the top five in Africa and second in the MENA region on the global AI readiness index. Initiatives like Maroc Cloud’s launch of Gemini Enterprise show that the ecosystem is taking shape.

In this context, training is no longer optional. As I analyzed in my article on AI training options in Casablanca, local supply is growing. But free international platforms remain the best entry point for building foundations.

OFPPT and some Moroccan universities also offer AI modules in their curricula. Check directly with institutions, as offerings evolve quickly.

What You Really Need to Know Before Starting

Prerequisites Based on Your Goal

If you want to understand AI to make better decisions: no prerequisites. Elements of AI or AI For Everyone are enough.

If you want to use AI tools in your profession: a few hours of practice with ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot. No coding required.

If you want to build models: you need Python basics and statistics. That’s a different level of investment.

Concrete Career Outcomes

AI literacy is becoming a hiring criterion. Not to replace professional expertise, but to work effectively with teams integrating AI into their processes. An HR director who understands what a conversational agent can do in candidate management makes better deployment decisions. Understanding the tools changes the quality of judgment calls.

As I explained in my analysis of the advantages of AI in recruitment, understanding the tools changes the quality of HR decisions. No need to code. You need to ask the right questions.
