Profiles working remotely for European companies often exceed this ceiling.

What the Moroccan Market Actually Pays

The AI job market in Morocco is structuring itself fast. Too fast for salary grids to keep up. What I observe in the projects I work on: companies have been looking for AI profiles for two or three years, but many still struggle to define precisely what they are looking for.

Casablanca vs the Rest of the Country

Casablanca concentrates the bulk of AI positions in Morocco. That’s where major banking groups, telecom operators, international consulting firms, and shared service centers are based. Compensation there is structurally higher than in Rabat or Marrakech.

Rabat attracts profiles linked to public institutions and government projects. Salaries are often lower, but working conditions and stability compensate for certain profiles.

Secondary cities like Fès or Tangier are beginning to recruit AI profiles, mainly in industry and logistics. Compensation levels there run 15 to 25% below Casablanca, based on observed listings.

The Sectors That Pay Best

Not all sectors value AI equally.

Finance and banking lead the pack. Moroccan banking institutions are investing in fraud detection, automated credit scoring, and conversational agents. An AI engineer in this sector often benefits from additional perks: insurance, bonuses, company car.

Telecoms follow closely. Operators use AI for network management, churn prediction, and offer personalization.

Consulting firms and IT services companies also recruit, often for client-facing missions. Compensation is competitive, but deadline pressure is real.

The public sector remains behind on compensation levels. Worth noting: recent initiatives from Moroccan civil society show that interest in AI is spreading beyond private companies. This is a separate market signal, not direct evidence of salary increases in the public or non-profit sector.
